Founded in London in 1994 by facialist Jo Malone, the house reinvented English perfumery with colognes featuring refined accords, such as Lime Basil & Mandarin, designed to be layered freely, a technique known as "fragrance combining." Acquired by Estée Lauder in 1999, Jo Malone London cultivates an aesthetic of luxurious simplicity: apothecary bottles, grosgrain ribbons, candles that have become decorative objects in their own right, and fragrances that celebrate British gardens and orchards, from the English pear to the peony.
