In 1847, Louis-François Cartier took over his master's jewelry workshop in Paris. His grandsons, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, established it as the jeweler to the European courts, operating between Paris, London, and New York: royal tiaras, the Santos watch created in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Tank watch of 1917, and the panther, which became a signature motif under Jeanne Toussaint. Owned by the Richemont group, Cartier perpetuates these iconic pieces, from the Love bracelet to the Juste un Clou, and remains one of the world's leading jewelry and watchmaking houses.
