SMEG, the designer home appliance creator , and Italia Independent have joined forces to present a new refrigerator entirely dressed in denim.
For their collaboration, the two design brands SMEG and the highly creative Italia Independent decided to reinterpret two major retro icons: the FAB28 refrigerator, whose look is inspired by the 50s, and the essential fashion accessory, jeans.
The idea behind this creation was to artfully combine objects from the past with timeless elements to create something new with a style that is both contemporary and aesthetically pleasing. This is how the new SMEG refrigerator, entirely covered in denim , came to be; the combination of the two forms much more than just a refrigerator and a simple pair of jeans.
This marvel is a limited edition comprising only 500 pieces. It was first presented at the Eurocucina trade fair in Milan.
To ensure this item is suitable for its intended domestic use, the denim fabric covering it has been treated with PLASMA. PLASMA is a cold, vacuum-based nanotechnology that protects the refrigerator's surface from everyday wear and tear such as splashes of water, milk, oil, and other fruit juices.
