Founded in 1875 in Le Brassus, in the Vallée de Joux, by Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, the manufacture has remained in the hands of the founding families, a unique case among the major watchmaking houses. In 1972, the Royal Oak, designed by Gérald Genta, invented the luxury steel sports watch and revolutionized the industry. With its high-flying complications, the Royal Oak Offshore, and its concept lab, Audemars Piguet combines the tradition of fine watchmaking with contemporary innovation, culminating in its spiral glass museum inaugurated in Le Brassus.
